Properties:
Colorless and transparent rhombic or diamond-shaped crystal white powder, soluble in water, liquid Nitrogen and glycerin, insoluble in water-free ethanol and ether. It is a fully soluble fertilizer with the formula KNO3. It is an ionic salt of potassium ions K+ and nitrate ions NO3−. It occurs as a mineral niter and is a natural solid source of nitrogen. Potassium nitrate is one of several nitrogen-containing compounds collectively referred to as saltpeter or saltpeter.
Usage:
Used in fertilizers, as a source of nitrogen and potassium – two of the macronutrients for plants. Widely applied in economic crops such as various vegetables, flowers and tobacco. Also can be used as base fertilizer, additional fertilizer, foliar fertilizer, soilless culture, etc. Used as the raw material of fireworks, black powder, fuse and firecracker. In pharmaceutical industry, it is used to produce penicillin potassium salts, rifampin and other drugs. Also used to produce cigarette paper, catalyst and dressing agent; in ceramic industry, used to produce ceramic glaze; heat treatment salt bath.
