Moisture problems result from the presence of high levels
of water vapour trapped inside the container at its time of
loading or in timber packaging or even the container floor.
Thest results shown that in the hottest and most humid
conditions, up to 15kg of water vapour can be sealed
within a 40 ft container. The problem is particularly acute
on many south-north trade routes although it can also
affect any route where there is a significant daily
fluctuations in temperature and humidity levels. Generally
the relative amount of moisture/water present in the air of
a sealed container is dependent of the type of goods and
the relative humidity of the ambient air at the time.

Just about every type of shipment is vulnerable to moisture
problems. However, it is especially destructive to
Humidity Sensitive Goods (HSG) like dry foodstuff, paper
products, leather, textiles and fabrics, sensitive
electronic, metal components (such as vehicle parts) and
timber products. In its mildest form, moisture in the
container can cause cardboard packaging to disintegrate,
labels to become detached, ferrous material to rust, and
timber to warp. An extended presence of moisture also
promotes the growth of mildew, fungi and mould which will
cause further deterioration.

Founded in 1998 by a group of expatriates in Asia who have
been working with shipping and manufacturing industry for
many years, its aim is to solve the increasing problem of
condensation, sweating and moisture inside the containers.
Its tailor made system, initially designed for the Asian
market, is now also being used for containers heading
towards the northern hemisphere. To date Super Dry
Desiccant is installed in over 10,000 containers per month.
Super Dry now has offices in many major Asian cities and
also representatives in Europe and the United States.
