12. Mechanism of Action:
. Magnesium hydroxide decomposes into magnesia and
water on heating.
. It's an irreversible and endothermic reaction that
absorbs a mass quantity of heat from surrounding air,
reduces the temperature of burning materials and
restrain polymers from decomposition and cool the
produced flammable gas.
. Magnesia derived from decomposition is a good flame
retardant to improve flame-resistant performance.
. Simultaneously it has a considerable surface area to
absorb smoke and combustibles, prevent organic
substance from contact with oxygen and decrease the
amount of CO2 emitted during burning.
